Renovating at Vervaz and other madness

Progress so far on our shack-tower-abode 12/04/2004 (Ristrutturare un Rustico e altre Follie....progressi fino ora)

Top floor! This is my creative rendering of the kitchen (with a theoretical window -in green with mountains). Those helping us with renovation keep trying to persuade me to give up on the extra window idea seeing as we already have 27. I kid you not. I don’t know how that is actually possible considering that in total the building is of 140 mq total - there are more windows than walls or floors). I point out that none of said 27 look in the direction of the mountains nor sunrise towards which I’d love to wash my breakfast bowl. This first world problem is not lost on me.

Piano più in lato! Con il mio rendering della cucina (e finestra - in verde con le montagna). Quelli che ci aiutano con i lavori stanno provando in tutti modi di farmi abbandonare l’idea della finestra in più, visto che ne abbiamo già 27 (giuro…non so comè possibile visto che in totale i metri quadri sono circa 140 - c’è più finestra che muri e pavimenti). Informo i lavoratori che nessuno dei 27 guarda verso la montagna ne il sole che sorge.

Joy! On the first floor we have had the wonderful news that we can in fact insert another chimney and have a stove here.

Primo piano - abbiamo avuto la notiza ottima che possiamo inserire una stufa qui.

Every morning Vale and C. (our neighbour) put in a morning’s work - here building a shed to shelter the fire wood. Whatever work is attempted, whether it be communal for the village, cleaning out the fountain, pruning our trees to allow the sun to bathe the vegetable garden of others, or mowing Emelda’s lawn, Corrado then informs said neighbours that the work has been instigated and carried out by Valerio. Corrado never takes credit for the elbow grease put in nor the results enjoyed.

Ogni mattina Vale e C. tirano su le maniche e cominciano i lavori. Qui stanno costruendo una coperta per la legna. Qualunque lavoro tentano - sia comunale per la frazione tipo pulire la fontana, sia potare nostri alberi per permettere il sole di baciare gli orti degli altri, falciare il prato di Emelda, C. annuncia ai vicini di casa che è tutto stato l’idea e lavoro di Valerio. Non prende mai credito per la fatica fatto e risultati ottenuti.
